Appreciative crowd required at Foggieton Wed 23rd

Just before the Summer Series event at Foggieton kicks off this Wednesday, there will be a very important presentation taking place and we need a big crowd of appreciative orienteers to supply applause and atmosphere. ScotJOS will be there in force, in their distinctive strip, Iain McLeod will be beaming and Rachel will be playing at paparazzi again.

Sasha invited to BOF Talent Camp

British Orienteering have announced selections to their Talent Camp, to be held at Badaguish Outdoor Centre this summer, and the list includes several SCOTJos names not least our own Sasha Chepelin for M16. Well done Sasha!

16/5/12 Countesswells Results (Summer Series)

Thanks to the Andersons for kicking off this year’s Summer Series at Countesswells with some relatively flat courses to jog round while getting your brains back into O mode. Still caught me out as for some reason number 9 seemed far more enticing a prospect to start with than number 1, so ended up going round backwards. Actually a much more sociable way of doing things as I could say hello to far more people as I passed them going in the opposite direction!

Note to organisers for future Summer Series events – control 101 sadly got vandalised beyond repair. First time we’ve experienced this problem at Countesswells and hopefully it’s a one off.

A GRAMP CHAMPS and (JD)²Ccounting event

Parking/registration is at the Bridge of Bogendriep on B974 (turn right after the bridge) Map The event will be signposted from Strachan.

There are two starts in opposite directions from the carpark (so make sure you know which Start is yours!) but all courses have the same Finish. All Starts and Finish can be accessed from registration without crossing or walking along the road.

Courses

Start approx 500m from registration, no road crossings:
White (TD1) 1.6km 20m
Yellow (TD2) 2.5km 55m
Orange (TD3) 3.0km 80m
Light Green (TD4) 3.4km 80m

Start approx 300m from registration, road crossings but running along road itself is not permitted:
Long Orange (TD3) 5km 140m
Green (TD5) 4.4km 115m
Blue (TD5) 6.5km 170m
Brown (TD5) 8.5km 250m

Registration: 10:30 – 12:30
Starts:11:00 – 13:00
Courses close: 15:00

Entry Fees £5 Seniors, £2.50 Juniors/Students, non-BOF members £7

Early Email Entry Explained: If you think that you are probably coming to the event, and have a fair idea of which course you would like to run, please would you use the EEE form by noon on Saturday 26^th May telling us your name(s) and course(s). This helps ease the data entry process as we can get ahead of the game before Sunday morning. Ta!

For those who send in an early email entry, you just come to registration at the event, pay for your run and pick up a timing brikke (there is no need to complete an entry slip). A map will be reserved for you up till 12 noon on Sunday.

Please note that this is not a full pre-entry. It’s entirely on a ‘no obligation’ basis and no charge will be made if you cannot come to the event. No money is being taken in advance. This is simply a way of simplifying and speeding up the process of runner registration. If you change your mind, and decide on the morning of the event to run a different course, that’s fine. Simply fill in an entry slip for the new course, and register in the standard way. If you cannot come to the event after all, that’s absolutely fine too. There is no need to email to let us know, and no apologies or explanations are necessary! Anyone who chooses not to make an early email entry will not be disadvantaged – everyone is still welcome to register for a course in the standard way on Sunday morning.

Sam and Tim Gomersall crack the Cuillin Ridge

It’s a small world, isn’t it? Popped into the Old Inn at Carbost on Saturday evening for a bite to eat and who should we meet but two very weather beaten and weary old men of the hills celebrating their completion of the Cuillin Ridge earlier that day.

As the pub was rammed, they let us share their table and recounted tales of 6 am starts, polystyrene bead snow flurries, ropework and scrambling, tricky navigation in places and a whole lot of fun for six and a half hours. Well done guys!

Registration 18:30 – 19:30, courses close 20:30.

Seniors £3, Juniors/Students £1 – we charge per map so the whole family can go round together if you want. Bring your friends as well, the more the merrier!

Courses:
Short – easy (yellow) 1.5 – 2 km
Medium – little bit harder (orange) 2.5 – 3km
Short and Long Technical – as hard as we can make it for that area 2.5 – 3km and 3.5 – 4.5km
