Seaton Park 18/6/25 Summer Series Results

Routegadget (Long course you’ll have to pretend you went to 6, 7 and 8 as shown on the map as we didn’t adjust the results or course data for what really happened)

Many thanks to Julian for planning and to Bob, David and Tim for helping collect controls.

It was very odd running round a deserted Hillhead – no conversations or music drifting out the windows, no veggie curry or washing powder smells.

Calling all Gramps – don’t forget we have an EGM on 25th June at Templars Park next week so please check your emails for details and a voting form if you can’t make it in person to chew over the changes while chewing your burger as it’s also the end of series BBQ to which everyone is invited, Gramp member or not.

Safety – A risk assessment will have been carried out by the organiser, but participants take part at their own risk and are responsible for their own safety during the event. We’ll be sharing parks/streets/woods with others so be courteous to other users and watch out for bikes/dogs/horseriders.

Health – Full leg and torso cover is required in wooded areas due to ticks.

Privacy – when entering our events your name may appear in the results section of this website or in newspaper reports. Grampian Orienteers data privacy policy

Photography – In line with the policies of British Orienteering, the organisers of this event request that any person wishing to take photos or video showing children should register their details with event volunteers before taking any such photos or videos. The event organisers reserve the right to ask people to refrain from taking photos or video and may, if such warnings are ignored, refer the matter to the police.

  1. Dear Sir / Madam.

Please can you advise weather we can just turn up to this event or not or weather we hadve to prebook? My friend and I would like to attend. It is some 20 – 25  years plus since I  last attended one of your events / did any orienteering and it is also something my friend has never tried before so you could class us both as novices.

Historically I used to run the yellow and orange routes and I think I tried one red route but that is all decades ago now.

Please could you advise what we need to bring with us and what the car parking arrangements are too. My friend knows where the location is but alas as I haven’t lived in Aberdeen for 20 years now the area is all very much very new to me again so advise on how to get there would be helpful. I will be travelling from Cove Bay and my friend from Bridge of Don.

Many thanks in advance for your assistance.

    Kind regards

    Rachel Simmons

    1. Hi!

Welcome back to orienteering! I’m sure it’ll all come flooding back!

Just turn up and let the organiser know that you’re novices and we’ll find someone to take you through the basics of reading the orienteering map and how to use the timing device before letting you loose to try it all out. The Easy/Yellow course is all within the park and would be an ideal refresher/intro for you both.

Just bring some trainers or comfy shoes and a compass if you still have one, we can provide the map with the course already printed on it and the timing device and a compass if needed.

Car parking is in the public car park in the centre of Seaton Park. Not sure if there is a charge to park there at that time of day so best bring some coins just in case.

Travelling from the North you’ll need to get yourself onto King Street heading north out of town as if you were heading to Bridge of Don. Turn left opposite the three tower blocks onto Don Street – there’s a signpost pointing left saying “Hillhead Halls/Hillhead Centre/Brig o’Balgownie”. Take the second left turn into the Park between the two stone pillars and you’ll see the car park straight ahead.

Travelling from the North is much easier: come over the bridge from Bridge of Don heading into town and take the first right onto Don Street opposite the tower blocks, then second left as described above. If you have the time then it might be easier for you to travel over to your friend at BoD and then you could both make your way in from there?

      Rachel
